The Jesse Tree Part 3: How to Make Your Own Jesse Tree
Would you like to make your own Jesse tree? If so, it ‘s not too late. I started my first Jesse Tree in 2017, and I am continuing to keep the tradition alive. Here is what you will need to make your own. (Please note that this post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases).
The Jesse Tree
If you live in an area with lots of trees, you can find a tree branch with one main branch and lots of smaller branches to attach ornaments. Set it up in a container with dirt or rocks and cover with burlap, felt, or paper. You can also just buy a small tabletop or standing tree or repurpose one that you already have in in your storage.
Fairy Lights
If you want to keep it festive, you can light up up our tree with fairy lights. I found these on Amazon and they work very well.
Ornaments
If you are the crafty type you can make your own ornaments. I got crafty one year and make mine from felt and various found objects. However you can also print and make these ornaments on your own or have your kids join in. You can also buy a set of pre-made ornaments like these.
Optional Items
We usually sit around the dinner table decorated with a Christmas wreath and candle centerpiece. As we eat under the glow of the candle light, we share the Jesse Tree devotional reflection for the night with conversation and lots of laughter.
Through this nightly ritual, we have been gifted with wonderful memory making moments and precious time for quiet reflection focused on the reason for the season.
If you decide to do a Jesse Tree this year, or to follow along with our family as we do ours, can I offer a final word of advice especially if you have young children? Please don’t turn it into a formal sermonizing moment. Rather, let it be as easy as family conversations that lead to questions, thoughts, insights and even laughter from everyone present.
I like to think that this time of sharing will be one of the best gifts to your family this holiday season.
Live deep; laugh much.
I help individuals create space and develop habits and strategies to live a flourishing life — one goal at a time.
